The Wu-Kah-Ki Theater Workshop is a theater arts program designed to empower youth in the Newark, East Orange and Irvington area. The program consists of various workshops educating participants in the areas of dance, theatre, vocal music and writing. College seniors, graduate students and professionals specializing in the Arts lead the workshops.

The purpose of this program is to develop the participant’s interests and knowledge in the Arts. The program will also serve as a platform for the urban youth to express their concerns with teenage issues. Wu-kah-ki  provides social services to teens at risk of dropping out of school. The program will supply participants with resources they can utilize in order to prevent dropping out. Wu-kah-ki promotes education and social development. We work closely with community organizations dedicated to keep students motivated.

Parental Participation is heavily encouraged. In order to promote parental involvement, parents are encouraged to attend one session. One mandatory parent meeting will occur during our season. The parents will sit in on a class and be invited to either sing, dance or act with their children.

The environment for both parent and participant will be encouraging and beneficial to all. The goal for the Wu-Kah-Ki Theater Workshop is to allow the youth to believe in their positive abilities and to encourage their peers to take an interest in positive self- growth. It is essential for participants to find their voice and communicate their ideas effectively.

Together with the parents and the community Wu-Kah-Ki Theater Workshop will continue to achieve phenomenal success!
